TRAVEL VACCINATIONS
✈️ Travel Vaccinations – Why We Ask for 6 Weeks’ Notice
If you are planning to travel abroad, please contact us at least 6 weeks before your departure date to arrange your travel vaccinations.
💉 Why is 6 weeks’ notice important?
- Vaccines need time to work
Some vaccines need to be given in advance so your body can build immunity, and others require multiple doses over several weeks - Safe clinical planning
Your travel risk assessment needs to be reviewed by a trained travel nurse to ensure you receive the right vaccines for your destination and medical history - Appointment availability
Travel clinics require time to:- Review your travel form
- Check your vaccination history
- Book the appropriate appointments
- Best protection before you travel
Starting early helps ensure you are fully protected before departure, reducing health risks while abroad
✅ NHS Travel Vaccines Available at the Practice
The following travel vaccines are available free on the NHS (if clinically appropriate):
- Tetanus, Diphtheria & Polio (combined vaccine)
- Typhoid
- Hepatitis A
- Cholera
These are provided because they protect against diseases that may pose a wider public health risk.
💉 Vaccines Not Covered by the NHS
Some travel vaccines are not provided by GP surgeries and will need to be arranged privately (e.g. pharmacies or travel clinics).
